Ketamine for Depression & Debunking the "Barbie Diet"

Scroll down for what I found out this week about 👉 ketamine for depression, but, FIRST, I have a little something to say about Barbie! 💪💕

I got a pitch last week from a PR person to let me know that "searches for 'Margot Robbie diet' EXPLODED by 1364% the week the Barbie movie came out."

They wanted me to write an article detailing what Robbie eats from sun up to sundown and how "the actress maintains her figure"—in particular for that iconic 1950s-style swimsuit at the beginning of the movie.

This pitch made my blood run cold.

Have you seen the Barbie movie?? 😃

Had the PR person and the company she represented seen the movie? Did they take anything at all away from the BRILLIANT AND LIBERATING message? Apparently not!

As the New York Times put it, the Barbie movie is all about learning how to live and celebrate our "flawed, messy, human lives."

It's about hope. And agency. It's about grounding our feet and strengthening our bodies and minds so we can choose whatever kind of families, careers, lifestyles, and shoes we like... Birkenstocks, stilettos, or otherwise.

There is no such thing as a "Barbie diet." What Margot Robbie chooses to eat will not make anyone else's body look like hers. Her body and her diet are hers and hers alone.

The Barbie movie makes many brilliant observations, but one of the most powerful is that uniformity is unrealistic, suffocating, and—ultimately—inhumane.

Finding the clothes, careers, partners, kinds of exercise and ways of eating that work for our unique bodies is definitely harder than trying to follow a restrictive, external plan, but it is much more fun and—in my 20 years of experience as a coach with hundreds of private clients—creating your own plan is also much more successful in the long run.

👉 If you would like help identifying your personal, customized version of healthy and a specific set of tools to make that process a whole lot easier, I've got two options coming your way:

Ketamine for Treatment-Resistant Depression

I am fascinated by the new research on psychedelics for a wide variety of mental health challenges, so I was excited to get the chance to answer a question about whether or not ketamine works for depression.

The research on this is extremely promising. It offers a new source of hope for many people who have not responded to traditional treatments, but it's not for everyone.

There are lots of important variables to consider if it's right for you or a loved one. In this week’s column at Forbes, we explore:

➡️ ketamine in mental healthcare

➡️ how it works for depression

➡️ at-home vs. in-clinic care

➡️ insurance questions

➡️ what to look for in a provider, and

➡️ what it might feel like to receive treatment.

Click here to get those answers, and please share this piece with anyone who might find the information useful!

👉 I'd love to hear from you if you've had experiences with ketamine (or other psychedelics) that have had an impact on your mental health, either positive or negative. Please reply to this email to tell me your story!
